Years ago, I came across an article about a doctor who specialised in treating cancer patients.
He was an experienced doctor, and many came to him.
But he was strict and not emphatic about the mental and emotional struggles that cancer patients must undergo, besides the physical pain and discomfort from the chemotherapy and treatments.
๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐น๐ฑ ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ.
He shared how he was sending patients through the routine protocol as though he was sending them through a factory assembly routine.
Until one day, he was diagnosed with cancer himself.

+ He had to experience the same protocol he prescribed for his cancer patients, and the nurses he had worked with are now his supervising nurse.
+ He had to experience the same mental and emotional struggles his patients had to undergo.
+ He had to experience the same physical pain from the chemotherapy and treatment.

When he finally went into remission, he shared in the article how he is now very emphatic about treating his cancer patient and being more sensitive about his patient’s struggles.
He makes it a point to have a conversation to process their fear rather than brush it off.
I am sure that today as we speak, he is now an empathetic doctor, making him a great one

You can be the most experienced doctor or professional, but if you lack Empathy, you are just Mediocre.
Unfortunately, in my episodes, I have encountered many experienced doctors but mediocre ones because they lacked Empathy.
But I was also fortunate enough to come across that one doctor who empathised, and it made all the difference because she had been there herself too.

Empathise without genuine understanding is simply lip service.
