Julie Tay

When Women Can Shape The World Faster Than Men Think.

My power coffee session today is with Julie Tay

She is currently a Board Member of Sonova AG Holdings and a mentor with the Asia Mentors Circle.

Something interesting happens during our conversation.

I am currently wearing an Invisalign for my teeth, and she spotted it immediately. It was supposed to be “invisible” Lol…

How did she have such a superpower?

She was actually a part of the executive leadership team of Align Technology for the past nine years.

And the driving force that expanded the business across China, Japan and 13 other markets, growing the company to more than 4000 strong headcounts today and shifting the landscape of Orthodontics.

#1 WHEN WOMEN LEAD.

When asked about women in leadership,

Julie was passionate about how Asia Women need to #RISEUP in what we STAND FOR.

Indeed not an easy journey, but she walked her talk.

“You must decide if being a leader is what you truly want”.

If the answer is yes, then go for it.

And yes, be willing to make helpful sacrifices because you know it’s worth the journey.

#2 SIMPLICITY IS THE SECRET TO EXECUTION

Julie is a hands-on leader.

Making a decision and making it simple enough to execute was her advice to the many inspiring leaders.

If people are loaded with multiple red tape, the business won’t be able to scale because people will be confused about what is more important.

The role of a leader at times is to think about how to make things easier for people to take action.

But this takes experience being on the ground to have an accurate pulse of the challenges.

#3 WORK-LIFE BALANCE?

There is no work-life balance per se.

The more you try to “balance”, the more you will fall off the beam.

The key is to find ways to integrate work and life into one that works for you.

So that you can #LIVE the best of your life.
