One of my most enriching experiences as we enter the new year was engaging in a 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗨𝗣 conversation over a cup of hot chocolate with Sze Keed Wong, the CEO of AIA Singapore.

What an inspiring conversation 🚀

We exchange ideas about what human leadership should encompass, the importance of uncovering our larger life narratives and prioritising self-care to foster greater goodness in the world.

Here are my key takeaways from our 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗨𝗣 conversation:

1️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗜𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂; 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲.

I love the fact that she enjoys engaging with ground staff and this demonstrates how modern leaders can inspire and lead differently.

She has a big heart and is dedicated to championing an exceptional service experience, aiming for the organisation to be known for its outstanding service culture.

As the saying goes, if you take care of your people, they will take care of your customers.

⭐ As a leader, what is something you are passionate about that you are willing to champion and lead with your influence?

2️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲.

In my journey, I’ve learned that true transformational leadership is impossible when you’re “stuck in the mud.”

For me, my darkest hour was a severe infection that left me unable to work for nearly four years, returning with nothing—no money, no business, and no projects.

And I see resilience today as:

↳ Do you know what you 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿?
↳ Are you 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗽 at work and in life?
↳ Are you ready to 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗨𝗽 to a higher calling when it comes knocking?

And If your answer to the above is yes, then you are ready to 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗢𝗳𝗳 your talent, gift and creativity to the world.

⭐ As a leader, if you are willing to show up in life, opportunities and possibilities will show up for you as well.

3️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗜𝘀 𝗡𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗡𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱.

During my 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗨𝗣 conversation with over 60 enlightened CEOs and leaders, including Sze Keed, I discovered that these leaders are driven by stories that extend beyond themselves.

While monitoring the P&L statement is important, the priority should be placing people in the right roles, supporting their development, and ensuring self-care for both the team and leaders.

I walked away from the conversation inspired by a female CEO with a genuine heart for people, aiming to leave a lasting legacy.

⭐ What do you want to be known for as a leader when someone recognises you on the street? What would they say about you?
